Flood Advisory issued August 2 at 8:49PM EDT until August 2 at 10:00PM EDT by NWS Charleston SC
AREAS AFFECTED: Beaufort, SC; Charleston, SC; Colleton, SC; Jasper, SC
DESCRIPTION: * WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues. * WHERE...A portion of southeast South Carolina, including the following counties, Beaufort, Charleston, Colleton and Jasper. * WHEN...Until 1000 PM EDT. * IMPACTS...Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 849 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated numerous showers and thunderstorms extending from Yonges Island and Edisto Island west to near Gillisonville and Okatie. As much as 1 to 4 inches of rain have fallen in these areas since early this evening with the highest amounts occurring across Beaufort County. An additional 1 to 2 inches can be expected through 10 PM. There is a risk for minor flooding of low-lying and poor drainage areas. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Beaufort, Port Royal, Ridgeland, Edisto Beach, Johns Island, Clarendon, Jasper, Hollywood, Ravenel and Seabrook Island.
INSTRUCTION: Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads.

A mammatus cloud is a cloud with a unique feature which resembles
a web of pouches hanging along the base of the cloud.
In the United States, mammatus clouds tend to form in the warmer months, commonly
in the Midwest and eastern regions.
While they usually form at the bottom of a cumulonimbis cloud, they can also form
under altostratus, altocumulus, stratocumulus, and cirrus clouds. Mammatus clouds
warn that severe weather is close.

Precipitation can refer to many different forms of water that
may fall from clouds. Precipitation occurs after a cloud has become saturated to
the point where its water particles are more dense than the air below the cloud.
In most cases, precipitation will reach the ground, but it is not uncommon for
precipitation to evaporate before it reaches the earth's surface.
When precipitation evaporates before it contacts the ground it is called Virga.
Graupel, hail, sleet, rain, drizzle, and snow are forms of precipitation, but fog
and mist are not considered precipitation because the water vapor which
constitutes them isn't dense enough to fall to the ground.
