Severe Thunderstorm Warning issued August 15 at 11:39AM CDT until August 15 at 12:30PM CDT by NWS Sioux Falls SD
AREAS AFFECTED: Buena Vista, IA; Cherokee, IA; Clay, IA; O'Brien, IA
DESCRIPTION: At 1139 AM CDT, severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from near Paullina to Larrabee to Cherokee to near Quimby, moving east at 45 mph. HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts and half dollar size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Hail damage to vehicles is expected. Expect wind damage to roofs, siding, and trees. These severe storms will be near... Cherokee, Aurelia, and Sutherland around 1145 AM CDT. Alta and Peterson around 1150 AM CDT. Other locations in the path of these severe thunderstorms include Linn Grove, Storm Lake, Sioux Rapids, Truesdale, Marathon, Webb and Albert City.
INSTRUCTION: For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building. To report severe weather contact your nearest law enforcement agency. They will send your report to the National Weather Service office in Sioux Falls.

A contrail is an artificial cloud, created by the passing of an
aircraft.
Contrails form because water vapor in the exhaust of aircraft engines is suspended
in the air under certain temperatures and humidity conditions. These contrails
are called exhaust contrails.
Another type of contrail can form due to a temporary reduction in air pressure
moving over the plane's surface, causing condensation.
These are called aerodynamic contrails.
When you can see your breath on a cold day, it is also because of condensation.
The reason contrails last longer than the condensation from your breath is
because the water in contrails freezes into ice particles.

Cumulus clouds are fluffy and textured with rounded tops, and
may have flat bottoms. The border of a cumulus cloud
is clearly defined, and can have the appearance of cotton or cauliflower.
Cumulus clouds form at low altitudes (rarely above 2 km) but can grow very tall,
becoming cumulus congestus and possibly the even taller cumulonimbus clouds.
When cumulus clouds become taller, they have a greater chance of producing precipitation.
