AREAS AFFECTED: Frenchman Basin

DESCRIPTION: ...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS ARE LIKELY FOR SOUTHWEST NEBRASKA ON WEDNESDAY... .Strong westerly winds approaching 50 mph with afternoon humidity values falling to around 20 percent will support critical fire weather conditions across southwest Nebraska Wednesday. Later in the day, a pronounced frontal boundary will arrive from the north and lead to an abrupt wind flip from westerly to more northerly. Wind gusts exceeding 25 mph are likely to continue well into the evening hours following frontal passage. The National Weather Service in North Platte has issued a Fire Weather Watch for strong winds and low humidity, which is in effect Wednesday afternoon. * AFFECTED AREA...Fire Weather Zone 210 Frenchman Basin. * TIMING...11 AM to 5 PM MST Wednesday * WINDS...Northwest 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 50 mph. * RELATIVE HUMIDITY...Falling to around 20 percent. * TEMPERATURES...Upper 60s to near 70. * LIGHTNING...None expected. * IMPACTS...Any fire starts will have a high potential to spread rapidly and will be difficult to control.

A fractus cloud (scud) is a fragmented, tattered cloud which has likely been sheared off of another cloud. They are accessory clouds, meaning they develop from parent clouds, and are named in a way which describes the original cloud which contained them.

Fractus clouds which have originated from cumulus clouds are referred to as cumulus fractus, while fractus clouds which have originated from stratus clouds are referred to as stratus fractus. Under certain conditions a fractus cloud might merge with another cloud, or develop into a cumulus cloud, but usually a fractus cloud seen by itself will dissipate rapidly.

They are often observed on the leading and trailing edges of storm clouds, and are a display of wind activity.
